Beginning Band Starter Lessons

Now that you have those SPARKLING NEW INSTRUMENTS, what do you do with them?

On August 21 and 22 each section of the band will have two starter lessons.  During each class, each section of instruments will meet together, in the Jr. High School music room for a one hour starter lesson. This small group setting allows me to address instrument specific issues without having the rest of the class sitting with nothing to do.  Once school starts all students will meet together during Band class.

We will cover:

How to care for your instrument

How to safely assemble and put away your instrument.

There will also be a short lesson on how to play your instrument

Introduction to reading music

Please check the schedule below and make plans to attend the sessions for your instrument.  Make sure you bring your instrument, your book, and your parents/guardian.  I look forward to seeing you and getting the year off to a GREAT start!.

Seniors last Band Festival

Seniors last Band Festival

On Friday, March 10 both the JH Concert Band and the HS Symphonic Band traveled to Oscoda HS to perform at the MSBOA District Band Festival. Both Bands played a short concert program consisting of 3 pieces and then were asked to sight read. Their performances were evaluated by a panel of four trained MSBOA Adjudicators. Three of the judges evaluated our concert performances and the fourth judge evaluated our sight reading skill. The HS Band received a First Division rating earning “Straight Ones” from all four judges. The JH Band earned a Second Division rating splitting the judges by earning two ones and two twos from the judges.. The District Festival evaluation provides us with an outside opinion on the state of our Band program. Earning First Division ratings means that we are achieving the highest standard set by the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. Mr. Falls is very proud of the hard work that both Bands put in during rehearsals which led to their fine performances at the Festival! Special thanks to the many parents and friends who made the trip to Oscoda to support us.
